re•mix (re -miks ) – noun
When a producer takes an established piece of music and produces a new modified recording. Often focusing the piece entirely on their own ego, while in the process drowning out the intentions of the original composer, whose work ends up buried under 128 layers of whatever is the current trendy sub-genre.

Sadly, this is quite often the modern definition of the word.
The greatest ‘remixes’ are generally the ones that don’t even sound like a remix at all. Where had the listener heard the track for the first time, they would be none the wiser to the reincarnated state. The idea is to give the song a new lease on life, while still allowing enough room to breathe.

The remix should be a token of respect. An approving nod in the direction of the original artist that acknowledges the versatility of the emcee who destroyed the first beat…while beckoning them to do it again.
Melbourne based producer Royalz latest release, Man Vs Maschine Vol .2, is testament to the fact.

Both the new and old school are represented, with the production stylistically varied to suit the theme of each track. Where ghosts of dope verse past are exhumed and re-birthed into a new body.
